Formula and calculation method

Weighted average = the sum of each grade multiplied by its weight ÷ the sum of all positive weights.

Worked example

For grade 5 with weight 2 and grade 3 with weight 1, the result is (5 × 2 + 3 × 1) ÷ 3 = 4.33.

Limitations

  • A school may use different grade values, weights and rounding rules.
