Formula and calculation method
Full-time nominal hours = 40 × full weeks + 8 × remaining Monday–Friday dates − 8 × non-Sunday public holidays. Multiply by working fraction. The annual total sums 12 monthly reference periods.
Worked example
August 2026 has 21 Monday–Friday dates, but 15 August is a Saturday holiday. Nominal hours are 160, or 80 for half-time.
Limitations
- Model: 8-hour/40-hour norms and monthly reference periods. Schedules, justified absences and longer reference periods can change the distribution. The calendar does not choose a substitute day off for a Saturday holiday.
- Holidays reviewed on 22 September 2026, including 24 December from 2025. Future years assume unchanged rules.

Frequently asked questions
Why do weekday counts differ from nominal working days?
A Saturday holiday reduces full-time nominal hours by eight without changing the Monday–Friday count. The employer schedules the substitute day within the reference period.
Does this replace a payroll determination?
