Validator

Polish PESEL validator

This PESEL validator checks eleven digits, the checksum and the real calendar date encoded in the number. It supports centuries 1800–2299, including leap-year rules. Encoded date and sex marker appear only when all checks pass. It does not identify a person or verify issuance, benefit eligibility or PESEL reservation status.

Validator

Enter data

One PESEL. Spaces and ordinary hyphens are accepted; a PL prefix and other characters are not discarded. Fields marked with an asterisk are required.

Technical check, not official verification. We do not check issuance, ownership, VAT status or PESEL reservation. Numbers are not sent to registers.

Enter only the number. Do not include a name, address or document scan.

How to use the calculator

  1. Enter one number and select “Check”.
  2. Read the format, checksum and any date checks separately. Do not treat the result as proof of issuance.
  3. Report problems using test data rather than sending a real identifier.

Calculation details

Formula and calculation method

Check digit = (10 − (the weighted sum of the first ten digits using 1, 3, 7, 9, 1, 3, 7, 9, 1, 3 modulo 10)) modulo 10. The month code identifies the century.

Worked example

Example 00222900009 encodes 29 February 2000. Its weighted sum is 61, giving check digit 9. The even tenth digit encodes a female marker. This is a technical example, not a verified person; coincidence with an issued number is possible.

Limitations

  • Passing structure does not establish issuance, current status, ownership or absence of misuse. Incorrect numbers are not automatically repaired.
  • A calendar-valid date may be in the future; this check does not establish age or register amendment history.

Frequently asked questions

Does a passing PESEL definitely exist in a register?

No. This is a technical check without register access or ownership verification.

Can I enter spaces and hyphens?

Yes. Whitespace and ordinary hyphens are removed. Letters, a PL prefix, dots and non-ASCII lookalike digits are not accepted.

Are my identifiers saved or sent?

No. Form data and results are processed in your browser without being added to the URL, persistent storage or analytics, and without register requests. Copying and printing are deliberate actions. Keep your device and clipboard secure.
